The Cortez Fire Protection District will be accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief. This position is under the direction of the Board of Directors and is responsible for all of the administrative, operational, training and support functions of the District. The beginning salary range is $55,000 plus benefits. Interested parties should submit applications and/or résumés to the District office at 23 N. The Cortez Fire Protection District is located in Southwest Colorado. The District encompasses 163.5 square miles including the City of Cortez. The District has a paid Fire Chief, Asst. Fire Chief, Fire Inspector, Administrative Assistant, three volunteers and twenty-nine reserve firefighters. They operate out of three fire stations, with three engines, one ladder truck, two rescue units, three brush trucks, four water tenders and three staff vehicles. The department responded to over 1,000 calls in 2009. The District is transitioning from an all-volunteer department to a combination department and needs a Fire Chief with strong interpersonal, operational, administrative and training skills to help with the professional development of the department.
